Grungy Monday #3 and Making Art!

Couple of challenges today, one being down to the wire....yep, talkin' about Grungy Monday!  Well, ok, I still had a day left, but it's late for me...

The theme this week is (was) exploring colorwash..Adirondack, to be brand specific. And you can see more info about colorwash on Ranger's site or Tim's website.

I needed to make a few Easter cards, so I used Stream and Lettuce colorwash on a background stamped and embossed with white powder, to create a resist. I then used paper from the Seasonal paper stack, and some vintage trim and buttons.

And on to the next challenge, which is over at the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo! Group...use three buttons and a dimensional grungepaper/grungeboard object.  I decided to keep it small and made a thick ATC.  By thick, I mean, out of a piece of masonite board, for lack of a better term.  I have a ton of the stuff left from some flooring packaging. Makes a great substrate. Any who...here it is...

No surprise there....that I chose a flower for my "dimensional object".  At least I don't disappoint.  Much.  All the stamps are Wendy's, of course. Now, when you read that sentiment, doesn't that song just pop in your head? lol!
Ok, on to the bonehead move of the day.... I was attempting to cut the edge of some cardstock in one of my new Fiskars border punches. Well, here's a little tip...don't try to do two layers of cardstock at once. Heavy cardstock. Yeah, it gave a little resistance, but I thought, well, the paper IS a little thick....so I put all my weight behind it, or should I say, on the top of the handle... and.... BOOM....blue plastic shattered everywhere, yep, the handle busted. Darn near put holes in nearby bottles of stickles and glue with the flying shards of plastic. So, there's another piece for the trash. Apparently they're only made for ONE piece of LIGHTWEIGHT paper. And you wonder why I buy steel rule dies?? Snort.
Hey, I wonder if the Sizzix dies will cut that thick flooring packaging I was talking about earlier??? Hmmm.....I'll let you know if I need a new Big Shot....lol...have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by!

Lori, both of your creations are outstanding! I love the bunnies and that ATC ... oy! Perfection!

... sorry about your Fiskars ... but thanks for the story. :) Had me giggling like a kid ... a kid who has ruined her own tools with non-sanctioned stuff. :)

I'm with ya on those punches. They don't cut through a heck of lot. Love both your pieces, the Easter one and the EW one.

Lovely Easter card, and great ATC. As for the Big Shot, look on the bright side. If you bust it, it gives you an excuse to get a Vagabond. I'm just sayin'....

The bunny is adorable! And the ATC is great - love the sentiment.

I am visualizing what would have happened if I would have put my weight on a punch.......no, I don't think I want to go there. LOL I gave up on punches years ago....decided die cutting was a lot easier.

I love what you made especially the second piece really speaks to me.

Hope you have a great day.....I have NASCAR on in the background as I look through blogs.

Love these pieces! Have to get a move on mine. Still trying to figure out what to do with the Wendy challenge. That stinks that you broke your punch. Was it only plastic pieces flying or were there some words a flying too????LOL

Shrapnel in your stamp room!!?!?! Yikes. Your ATC is just beautiful... I love the big bold border and flower on top of the more delicate background. Really nice.

I don't think you should cut floor tiles with your Big Shot. Love the bunny, it's precious. And yes, I'm humming the damn song. Thanks a bunch.

Two wonderful pieces - just love the colors and image on the vintage one - I'm a sucker for ric rac so you had me there and the Wendy ATC is great too. I really love the background stamping on that one and the sentiment really is wonderful! I'm really warming up to ATCs lately and working towards a chunky one - LOL!

Hugs,
Linda

I meant to say that I have found all those border punches, especially the Martha Stewart ones, to be pretty flimsy. I can only cut light CS with mine, even a heavy piece of SU card stock sometimes messes it up.

Lori, the resist background you created with the Color Wash is sensational! I love the color combination-- Steam and Lettuce look great together, especially over the white pattern. The little bunny, well, who wouldn've love him, right? This is Easterly perfection, darlin'!

I'm loving your Wendy ATC, too-- what a cool design (and lyrics from my favorite song, too!).

You're ingenious. End of story.

(Watch out for punch shrapnel, girlfriend!!!)
