Today I have a tag to share that I made for the Making Art! Challenge 4 over at the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo! Group. Wow, that was a mouthful. The challenge was to use Wendy's "perfect stamping" technique. You can find it in a couple of posts on her blog, HERE and HERE.
See how the green and blue are kinda blotchy? I used the new Distress Stains, used Broken China first, just on a portion of the tag, then ran Peeled Paint round some of the edges where the Broken China wasn't, then spritzed with a little water where the two met. I like it! I also tried the technique on the flower that Wendy showed on her blog HERE, where you attach metal tape sheets to Clearly Art, then run thru an embossing folder and color with Alcohol Inks. I used Currant, Stream and Rust AI's. With the glare, it's hard to see, but it is really luscious in real life...lol...the bottom of the tag is one of Wendy's new stamps embossed with Queen's Gold EP. Oh, and the little birdie is the same material as the flower, I just didn't run him thru the embossing folder.... thought it might hurt....
The Perfect Stamping tech came out a little too light, here's a closeup, see the faint lines running from top to bottom?:
And here's the background I should have used, more on that later:
Also took some time to play with molds and UTEE.
Yep, made some molds from Tim's buttons, and wanted to try molds from facets, it worked pretty good. The facets took a little fiddling around, I was trying to get a nice smooth surface. Notice how the blue one made from the facet mold has a bumpy surface. It had air bubbles, and when I went over it with my heat gun, the bubbles started popping and left a bumpy background, which I think is rather cool. Also notice how the clear UTEE pieces are a little different in color if you let the UTEE sit in the pot for a bit. I rather like it though, looks a little more vintage. And of course, I can change the color with Alcohol Inks if I want. :) . I got the blue color by adding To Dye For in blue, to clear UTEE. I added a little too much though. lol. But I rather like the deep color. Speaking of To Dye For....I have several packs of the Primary colors (Blue, Red, Yellow) that need a good home. So, if you KNOW you are going to use it and DON'T have any..send me an email. First three emails.....

21 watcha thinkin'?:
Loving your tag for oh so many reasons. I love bumpy bits and drips, makes for great interest. Fab tag my friend. Annette x

looks like you had fun playing with the utee--great tag and tiny gizmos!
Me likes your tag. I just realized that the deadline is less than 2 hours away, and I actually finished the project for this week's challenge! Gotta get it posted!
Holy cow, this is cool. But I need to go get a drink to follow your 'stuctions. I want to try it, so I'm going to go see Wendy.
I have some of that colouring stuff, no idea where it is, but I know I have some. Hmmmm....
I love that tag - and your molds turned out great.
A very cool tag, Lori. I like the look of the distress stains. (wanted to get my hands on some of those at the show, but they sold out the first day:(
Very cool tag (lol, I think the birdie appreciates not being put through the embossing). Ahem, this is a technique you've demonstrated here (cough cough..Opus Gluei challenge, cough cough).
I think the molded pieces of UTEE are great looking, I want to try this out now. Is it hard to the To Dye For out of the melting pot? I mean, does any residue of it linger?
You always have fun new toys to play with and make such cool stuff. Your stash must be bigger than most stores!!
Is there a chance that I might see you in AL? The reply is "yes".
Gorgeous tag, the moulds are fantastic, well done you for sticking at it, they are so fiddly. xx
Great tag Lori and looks like you had a ball with your melting pot and UTEE. I need to get mine fired up soon and do the Ranger challenge.
Great tag Lori! I love the background colours, don't you just love those stains? I just got a couple and need to get some more.
Love what you did with the UTEE, may have to go try the facets, did you use the Mold n Pour to make the molds?
Wonderful tag, Lori!!! and UTEE bellies!!! Very cool!!!
Love the utee pieces Lori. Love that aqua background too! Thank you for the kind comments you leave on my blog.
Just love reading your "how to..."s They are so helpful and give me ideas that I might be too nervous to try without your pics to boost my confidence. have had the melting pot for 4 months and it is still in the package! Love the idea of doing the buttons in UTEE, gonna try that one tomorrow. Hugs, Vic
PS Would love to come and see your stash someday, but am certain you have your own organizational system ;-)
This weekend I think I've finally carved out some time to try emulating your Holtz-esque molds!
Maybe one day I'll be creating tags as gorgeous as yours!
Love the colors and textures on your tag ... and background on the "should have used." :)
Lori ... I'm a dink I guess ... I can't find your e-mail address. :) Help?
Must get me some stains, your tag looks fab Lori! Love your little UTEE embellies too! x
