Sentimental Metal

Hey all! Good afternoon from snowy, blowy, and generally crappy Illinois. lol.  Right now, I'm looking out the window and all I can see is.... white.  Thankfully, the power is still on and I'm still getting an internet signal. Oh, and amazingly enough, still receiving the satellite TV signal. lol.
Alrighty then, the theme of the CCC this week is... Altered Metal with Paint.  Check out the details on lovely Linda's blog, along with her awesome sample,  HERE.
The theme over at Hels Sunday Stamper is... Sentimental Journey.  Click here to check out her awesome creation as well as many others.
You know what, I had this lovely paper and stamped images from my friend, Alexandra, who resides in bonny Scotland.  Thanks so much, Alexandra!  So, I decided to use it! Yep, that's right!  Here we go:

After I inked the edges of the paper with Tea Dye, I stamped the Fab Flourish stamp in black.  It's also edged with black and gold paint dabber.
I inked the stamped images, then mounted them on black card, edged with gold dabber.  The stamped images themselves are edged with black dabber.
The bookplate is actually the piece that meets both challenge requirements..the sentiment inside and the ...ah...altered bookplate, which you probably can't see real well unless you blow up the picture.  Oh, I did alter the metal fleur de lis on the tag too.
What? Oh. The crown. lol. That is UTEE, and the mold is courtesy of a blogger friend of mine, she knows who she is...lol..THANK you for that.  I totally love it.  I went nuts one day and poured a gazillion of them.  I put some gold paint dabber on that too.
Ok, now, I wanted to answer some questions from comments from the last couple of posts.

Debby wanted to know if there are directions for the easel cards on the web, and I can tell you, YEP. Tons. That's how I learned how to make one. Just Google it, and there's even some videos. Now, after viewing the video, I tried it from memory, and since then, I've just been eyeballing where the score lines go. Sometimes successfully, sometimes...not.
My friend Eileen mentioned that ATC sized easel cards are very cool, and I would have to agree, they would be VERY cool. Is she brilliant or what?
Craftytrog wanted to know what color my toenails were...HA! Ummm, the comment was about as far as that got.
Electra wanted to know how to get in on the swaps. Well, Electra, they were for the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo group, so you would need to be a member of the group. You can click the button on my sidebar to take you to the homepage, or just email me.
And one other thing, does anyone own one of those electric label makers? Like the Brother PTouch? I'm wondering if they would be handy in the studio for printing little labels for ATC's, journaling for scrapbooks, etc. As compared to running to a computer with a printer all the time. Give me your thoughts. Yeah, I have a dymo, but sometimes I wanted some printed stuff.
Thanks for stopping by, try to keep warm!

I feel your pain, Lori. I am in southwest Missouri and we are blanketed in white as well...about 10 inches and hopefully it is starting to taper off now. Anyway...I love your piece! Very cool technique and result! It is really pretty! I think I may try to make something tomorrow for this challenge. Good day to say INSIDE and create! :)

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I totally love metal and that crown just blew me away. I'm still clueless about the whole UTEE molds thing but one of these days I'm gonna figure it out (and have the $ to buy what is needed). And when I do, I know where to go to get my inspiration!

What? You're not going to share your nail color? *lol*
I finally have some UTEE ... and that's as far as I've gotten with it. Some day, I'll actually do a mold ... yep, some day ...
Anyway, this is a wonderful creation, Lori! Love the colors & the "regalness" of it.

Oh wow! I love this piece! Excellent colors and images and sentiment!

Digging your personal responses to comments, so I'll help you out with one: I bought an electric Dymo machine about four years and have used it occasionally for card making.

Things might be improved with more modern versions, but mine doesn't produce dark lettering and it only prints on this weird plastic but not quite plastic tape.

Very hard to ink, paint, color.

However, as I said, I have used it so if you find a cheap one I'd say try it out ... then you can tell me what I'm doing wrong. :)

Fabulous project! Boy, would this look great in a vintage frame hanging on the wall! And, yes, I have not one, but two of the little Brother PTouch labelers, and I love them! I have one set up for small text, and one for large. I use the small text to label my punches, Cricut cartridges & various tools, and the large one to label my many SU stamp sets so I can actually read them without my glasses! I use them so much in my organization, it never occurred to me to use them for journaling! Ha! Thanks Lori!

Wow! this is fabulous Lori! Love what you did. I have been laid out with a back injury since early Friday morning so haven't even looked at the challenge or other blogs.

It is just gorgeous!
And to answer a question, like Miz Stephanie I have two Brother labelmakers. Don't ask me why; I don't have them set up differently. I think I thought the second one was different, but it is quite similar. I also have the Dymo with the changable cartridges.
I mainly use the Brothers for labeling storage containers, files, etc., but have also used them for text on paper pieces. You can get laminated refills or paper refills and depending on the machine, different widths too. My favorite is black laminated tape with gold print. Use it for special occasions, LOL.
To sum up: yes, you need a Brother!

Gorgeous collage, so much to look at.

Cool project and thanks for the info on the cards. Love that crown. I just write stuff in my own handwriting. I think that adds a personal touch to what you are doing. But a lot of people do not like their handwriting. So you have to check what others say. I am computer inept so typing and printing out is pointless for me. LOL

This is such an incredible piece...I could stare at it forever! Did you use UTEE in the bookplate? I think that's such a cool idea. I'll definitely be borrowing that at some point. ;-)

Thanks for the answer to my question, Chatty Cathy. I love how the fab flourish eminates (I think that's the word I want) from your crown. Well, I know what I mean. This is too cool.

WOW, I'm drooling on my keyboard , Fab work Lori, clap clap clap!!!

Just adore the metal ornaments on your ATC. And the flourish stamping in the background is so intricate!

Barbara Mason said...

Lori!!! You really created such a gorgeous piece...going back for another look after I post...Simply loving all the elements you used and created.

Lori, this is so flipping cool! That paper is gorgeous, and I love the images you used and the great design. The altered metal couldn't be more at home-- the regency theme is PERFECT for this technique! Killer UTEE crown-- I thought it was metal!

BTW, I have a P-Touch, and I use it a lot for labeling things in my studio, but not much for actual art.
