Friday Fill Ins

Blanks filled in are the bold, italic font, FYI.

 1. I was going to, but I forgot.
2. I was placing my bets and I left my book at the track.
3. Why don’t you just do what I tell you?
4. Eating ice cream was in my thoughts today.
5. One of my father's favorite sayings was have you changed the oil in your car lately?
6. Tell me about it--I know that feeling!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to housework, tomorrow my plans include scoring stuff at an auction and Sunday, I want to eat doughnuts for breakfast!

Glittery Goodness

...theme of this week's Tag Tuesday is GLITTER.  All across the country, studios, workspaces, family pets, and even possibly small children are now covered with fine glitter. lol  It gets EVERYWHERE, well, unless you use a glitter glue.  Not me, the real thing, baby. I like Art Glitter Institute for glitter. And I use the Art Glitter dries clear adhesive for EVERYTHING anyways.  Good stuff.  Any who, here's my entry:

Yes, I seem to not be able to do anything without butterflies, flowers or birds.
Background stamp is Hero Arts Silhouette Block, embossed with clear embossing powder over a distress ink background, then more distress inks applied. Chipboard butterflies are K & Co from my friend Jessie, which I tricked out with some more glitter.  Then added a little glitter here, a little there, ta da!
Ok, let's see, haven't had a lot of studio time this week, but will shoot for more sometime this weekend, maybe.  The weeds need a pullin' in the strawberries and flowers, so if anyone wants to help, you can email me......
I'm just sayin'.....
Go be creative and have a great weekend!

Mini Banner, Part Two

Wowza, apparently you guys like metal, based on yesterdays comments.  Thanks so much for the lovely comments! You guys rock! And to answer a question, yes, I do find that working with metal is a little easier, as far as the roses go, cause I just use wonder tape (red liner tape, whatever you want to call it) instead of waiting for wet glue to dry. Want me to make a pictorial tutorial (hey, that rhymes, go figure!) on how I made the tags? Let me know, be happy to oblige.
..yes, still trying to get the mini banners done for the EWV swap! Good thing the deadline was moved to May 25th!  I'm usually not this late, but for some reason, these keep getting pushed to the side.  I know, I know, it's only April 28, but I'm kind of anal about meeting deadlines EARLY. (really? ask my friends and family, I'm the one who shows up early for everything, then stands around like a dork waiting for things to start, good thing I can amuse myself easily. Wait, that didn't sound very good. What I mean is, I usually look for ways to pull practical jokes on people before everyone arrives, you know, like punching a hole in the bottom of a styro cup, then laughing at the first person who grabs it and fills it with coffee, until they realize it's getting all over their clothes, lol....all in good fun)
Here's banner two:

Hey, looks pretty good on that painted background paper, eh? lol
All stamps, Wendita Bonita. (Studio 490 by Stampers Anonymous for those not in the know) , grungepaper for the flowers and leaves (of course), new Maya Road mini chip butterflies (very cool), distress inks, distress stickles on the flower.
So, two down and four to go.  At this rate, I'll be working on them till May 24, YIKES!

Golden, Coppery Hammers

...remember my Silver Hammers post? Here it is.
I had two of the same size tags left, so I decided to make two more metal themed tags, and hopefully, sometime this year, put them all in a nice antique frame. I went with Gold and Copper.  I'm also going to enter these into Hels Sunday Stampers Challenge, so I can double my chances of winning the blog candy, not that doubling my chances will do any good, lol.

Some deets, in case you're curious:
Timinator's Fab Flourish stamp
All roses and leaves made from Ten Seconds Studio Metal, used the medium flower on Timinators Tattered Florals die, then run thru the CB embossing folders
Ideaology keys
A piece of UTEE for each
Molding Paste for texture
Paint dabbers
More stamping with Jet Black Archival and the ole Fab Flourish
Black Diamond Stickles and Art Glitter Gold (only on the gold tag, lol)
The chip base are tags from Maya Road
If you have any questions, always feel free to ask! I'm always happy to push my opinion onto poor, unsuspecting people. lol.

Sunday Stamper Challenge

...Hels gave us two weeks to enter this time, 'cause she is moving, (don't envy her that task).  I thought I would be able to enter last week, but no, didn't get anything accomplished.  Then I remembered another ATC I had made on Saturday, so I'm going to enter that!

All stamps - Tim's, ink colors - wild honey and brushed corduroy, some cool pearly embossing powder that Jessie let me use (butterfly) and some German scrap. Sorry the pic is a little blurry, but you should know by now that my picture taking skills are not the greatest......

April 24 and so much more...

...Saturday was April 24, last I checked.  A good friend of mine, Jessie, and I have been trying to get together for a couple of months now to play with all our "stash".  Saturday was finally the day.  And I have to say, it was a total blast!
After "show and tell" hour, lol, we got busy creating. And, if one of us mentioned, "have you seen? or have you done this?", we'd be off and running on a totally different subject, dropping what we're doing and creating something else.
We painted paper, which was something I've been wanting to do for a while, just never got around to it. We used whatever was handy, usually scrapbook paper that we really didn't care for, old file folders, etc.  Also a great way to use up the acrylic paints I've had from the decorative painting days, ah, back in the early 90's. Some quick scrapes with an old credit card, (what's in your wallet?, why, it's a credit card with paint all over it) and this is what you get:

We used some metallic paints as the last coat, kind of brings the colors together, BUT, it's also hard to show in a photo. They turned out very cool.  And, I was able to get some ATC's done:

The heart on the one on the left is covered with Tarnished Brass crackle paint, really cool, kinda gotta glare in the pic.  The one on the right is just leftover strips of paper I glued to cardstock to make a background, then added grungeboard and grungepaper embellishments.
This one I'm not especially fond of, wanted to try some mica flakes, but overkilled it all round the edges:

Moral of the story, less is more. lol.
So overall a great, crafty weekend with great company!  Hope your weekend was great too!

Kinda Finished

..been trying to finish the mini banners I need to make for the EWV group swap.  Finally got around to one the other night. Let me know what you think. I think it needs more, but there is only so much room, hence the "mini".

I'm thinking maybe something around the edges.  I probably used a flower that is too big, you think? lol  I used some thinner corrugated cardboard for the base, then, duh, you need to cover the edges, who wants to see inside cardboard? So I used some fabric strips to cover all the edges, then cut out paper and glued on top.
And here's what happened when I tried to run a CD thru my Big Kick, supposedly they're supposed to cut acrylic, right? So I thought I would try a cd first.  I heated it a little with my heat gun to make it a little more pliable, but....

It kinda broke in some spots.  Anyone else tried running acrylic thru their die machine? If they're really made to cut acrylic, like they claim, then....tell me how it's supposed to work? lol
All righty then, gotta run...have a great weekend!
I might be back later with Friday Fill-Ins...who knows...

Shake It Up...and LIVE a Little!

Tag Tuesday challenge this week - Repurpose, Reinvent, Reuse in honor of green day, which I believe is tomorrow...
Right up my alley, using up crap stuff I've kept, thinking I'll use it someday...
Louise used packaging from a Martha Stewart item, which I also save, because they have the nifty wire hangars at the top, so I totally swiped that idea...see if you can figure out the other item I recycled, it's not too hard to spot...lol

Yep, it's the plastic packaging from some Idea-ology pieces, turned on it's side, and I made a SHAKER tag.  I used some Beadazzles and micro beads for the shakin' part, click on the pic to get a close up if you want. The images under the shaker part are from Suze Weinberg's Instant Art book.  I stamped with Staz On on the left of the plastic.  The base of the tag is covered with old book paper, stamped and inked.  Some black trim from Creative Imaginations, white pen doodles, the word LIVE are little cloth tags with letters printed on them that I won in a giveaway.  The black, white embossed paper at the top of the tag is leftover from another project.  So, there you go, some more ideas on how to recycle, and another reason to hoard keep stuff. Click on the Tag Tuesday link above to see the entries, they're fantastic!
Go be creative!

Grunge, Metal and Inks, Oh My!

...thought I better at least get some pictures of the projects from classes on Saturday before I start receiving death threats.

Here's the grungeboard wallets, we got to make TWO!  I have yet to finish the embellishing part...you know  how that goes.

I used Faded Jeans with Chipped Sapphire around the edges on the left one, I just love how the colors turned out.  Then on the right, I used Rusty Hinge with Forest Moss round the edges.
On a side note, here's what I do to get really good coverage with the ink on grungeboard.  It's really a scientific process, and I'm sure, not new to most of you... instead of using the blending tool to apply ink, I just take the ink pad and smash and smear it all over the grungeboard, then quickly take the blending tool and blend it all in so you don't have "pad" marks.  Works great, and you get TOTAL coverage.
These are business card holder size, not that I carry business cards, with the exception of all the punch cards I have collected from scrapbook stores along the way and over the years....wonder if some of them are still good.....but at least they'll be carried in style now. lol.  I know that my friend Eileen originally came up with the wallet idea a while back, and Linda had asked her if she could teach it as a class, so it was kinda an artist collaborative effort...which I'm sure we're all pleased about.
Here's the front of the tool caddy:

I love how the metal part turned out, even though I was the student that was, ahem, rushing ahead thru the instructions, and kinda forgot to trace the box part on the metal first, I was trying to cover it up in class 'cause Linda was standing right there, but I got busted....
We got to use the new Ten Seconds Studio molds, that's where the CREATE came from, love that mold, and the rest is one of the Kabuka molds. But unfortunately, the store didn't have the new molds in, which was good for my checkbook, not good for the store, they could have made a fortune off me. lol.
The butterfly is grungepaper, stamped and we got to paint the design with Perfect Pearls.  Very cool.  Makes an awesome paint, just add water!  Ah, there's more embellishments we were given that I have yet to attach.....
That's it for today's installment of the "I'm a dork because I forgot to take pictures yesterday" show....
Go be creative!

I Made A Scene.....

...no, I didn't get into a fight.  (But I have thought about it...)  You'll see what I mean in a minute.  I have a lot of ground to cover, so stick with me please....if you want to skip narration, just scroll down for some art. (I would have inserted the word "wussie" there, but thought better of it)

Ok, so...busy weekend, art wise.  Saturday, my sister and I went to the Quad Cities and had two classes with Linda.   Did I remember to take pics? No, of course not.  The first class we made grungeboard business card wallets, very cool.  Did I remember to take pics of mine this morning? No, of course not.  I'll get them this week, promise.  (and if you fall for that, I have oceanfront property in Arizona I'm sellin').  The second class was a wood tool caddy covered with metal and paper, also very cool.  Did I remember to take pics of that? No, of course not.  It was the first time my Sis had worked with metal, but I think she enjoyed it.  The good news was I won a door prize, which turned out to be an extra caddy, complete with metal to work with. SWEET!  Linda is so very fun and a great teacher, although some students tend to rush ahead, ahem.  Then, after class we found a new scrapbook store that opened in Moline, The Scrapbooking Studio. SCORE!  They had ALL of Tim's new dies.  Even Tattered Florals, multiples of each.  So, click on the link, their phone number is listed there, in case you want to see if they'll ship!  I didn't ask them, but I did think of my blog friends that are trying to find the Tattered Florals die.......I'm just sayin'.  They also had a lot of the new Maya Road stuff.

So, then Sunday.  Yes, Sunday.  I knew the Scrap, Stamp Art Tour was in Rockford, a little over an hour from us.  And yes, I knew Stamper's Anonymous was going to be there, and yes, I knew Wendy was demoing.  I wasn't going to go, as I had spent some decent dough Saturday, but...I was really wanting some more new Wendy stamps, and another vendor was going to be there that sells Stampscapes stamps, which my Sister and I are passionate about. (for this month, anyways, lol)  Then Dewbird tells me he has to run an errand to a town about halfway between our home and Rockford, and well, there's also a Tuesday Morning store in Rockford, and well, before you knew it, I was rushing around and zooming towards Rockford at the speed of light. (That's not totally true)  So yes, I did drop some more dough in Rockford, chatted with Wendy a bit, and scored bigtime on grungeboard at Tuesday Morning.  So yes, the rumors about Tuesday Morning having two packs of grungeboard for $7.99 is true.  When I walked in, everything was basically just dumped on the shelves in general "groupings".  I had never been to a Tuesday Morning before.  Dewbird went in with me, and I could see the look of fear in his eyes, lol.  I was strolling thru the aisles, and finally came to what I thought was the general craft aisle, but saw no grungeboard. Darn.  I was somewhat crestfallen at that point...until...I walked to the end of the aisle, turned the corner, and....(insert angelic chorus) there it was in all it's magnificent glory.  Two packs of grungeboard for $7.99.  I cleaned up the shelves for them. lol  My Sister wanted some too, it wasn't all for me. Just 90%. lol.
And here's the other thing I found there.  A sock drawer organizer that nicely holds distress ink pads for $9.00.

I plan on fastening straps on the top and bottom that will connect in the middle, in the front of the pads, and a handle on top, so I can just pick it up and go without them fallin' out all over creation.  Yea, let's see if the handle thing comes to fruition.
Then when I got home, I was all pumped up to create some Stampscapes cards, so I eventually got to it, last night.

And here's an example of how NOT to do it:

Um, yeah.  I'll just cut off the parts I want to keep.....
I was fairly pleased with the results, considering it's only about my third or fourth attempt at these.  Most people that stamp with Stampscapes use Adirondack Seashells ink, which are now the lights and brights, but I used Distress Inks.  The base images were stamped with black Staz On on glossy cardstock.  Being a nature and mountain nutcase, I love this stuff.  If you're not into landscapes or scenes, then this wouldn't be your cuppa tea.  And yes, I have yet to mount them onto a card.
While at the stamp show Sunday, I ran across these stamps, which you don't see ANYWHERE, so I had to get them, being as how I'm a chick who rides motorcycles:

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would see a Gold Wing stamp.  I have two motorcycles, a Gold Wing and a cruiser. And no, not a Harley, as you can tell by the one stamp above.  So, lots of ideas planned for these.
Hey, I think I might be done bloviating!  Go be creative!

Inspire Me...

...that's the theme of this week's Tag Tuesday.  Use whatever you find inspiring.  Could be a quote, picture, whatever.  You all know, I think, whose art I find inspiring. Well, one of the people, anyways.  Yep, that's right, Wendy Vecchi (and dare I say, the Timinator, they're both about equal for me as far as inspiration.)  So my tag this week is inspired by...Wendy.  I like the sentiments she puts in her stamp sets.

I provided close-ups for your viewing pleasure, lol.  I put Rock Candy stickles on the sentiment, which is stamped on grungepaper, and, ah, it wasn't quite dry when this photo was taken, but the sentiment says "find delight in the everyday things".  Same thing with the star at the top of the bottle, which is Black Diamond stickles.  All stamps used are Wendy's.  Lots of colors of distress inks, coffee and black archival inks, white inkssential pen, Maya Road trinket jewel flower, and I decided to give the "hand" a diamond cuff link. lol.
This weekend I'm taking a couple of classes with Linda Cain, and my Sis is going with me, so should be a riot, with some art thrown in for good measure.  You're probably thinkin', boy, she takes a lot of classes.  Why yes, I do.  Every opportunity I have.  There's not a lot that are close, except for Wendy and Linda, so when they're available, I'm all over it like white on rice. This may be the last for quite a while, so I'm loadin' up.
Hope you have a great weekend, try to make time to make some art, and go be creative!

Silver Hammers

...well, not really.  The Sunday Stampers challenge this week was going to be hammers, according to Hels, but she was just kidding, it's really SILVER.

Trust me when I say it looks better in person.  The silver aspects don't photograph well.  There's a rose made out of metal in the upper right corner with leaves.  I swiped black paint over it to give it some age.  The piece on the left is black UTEE with silver rub 'n buff.  There's also some black rhinestones in the upper left, a key in the lower right along with a Prima bead cluster, which I tricked out with silver paint dabber, lol.  Perhaps I went a little nuts with the silver, that's why it's a little hard to see.
So, Eileen wondered about running cardstock thru a label maker in her comment from my Monday post.  Well, it's all trial and error.  I just have a little cheapo label maker, and I used heavier cardstock, lightweight cardstock doesn't work that well. And, if you're going to sand it, it needs to have a white core. Any who, I used the tape that came with the label maker to measure the exact width of paper I needed. Trust me again, when I say, that this part is crucial.  I don't know how many times I have jammed up paper by either being not wide enough or too wide.  Hope this info helps. Results are not guaranteed. lol.
Hope you had a creative day, if not, go be creative!

Monthly Mailer for April

...my partner for the April monthly mailer from the All Things Tim group received her tag...so...you know what that means..you get to see it now, lol.
According to the instructions for the April theme that I read, we were to use the April 08 technique challenge that Tim had on his blog.  Speaking of, it's really a good idea to go back in the archives on Tim's blog, and look at his technique challenges, very inspiring.  Ok, on to the tag:

Basically, you use the embossed layer resist technique on scrapbook paper.  Then cover everything with Espresso paint dabber, and wipe it off the clear embossed areas.  The brown strip on the left is brown card run thru the label maker, then sanded.  The buckle over the strip is glossy accents over a grungeboard buckle, then I put drops of alcohol ink on it and let it dry.  Kinda looks like tortoise shell.  Susan told me about this after I noticed she had done it on one of her pieces. Very coolBasically, it's the drunken scotch technique without the heat. lol  I believe the rest is pretty self explanatory.  I made a pocket on the bottom of the big tag, then made a smaller tag to insert into the pocket.
The arrow? Oh, yes, it's covered with dimesional pearls that I kinda smeared with my finger, then applied a layer of glossy accents over.  Any who, it was a fun tag to make, you should give it a try!
And for those wondering, class was great on Saturday with Wendy.  Deb, Susan and I had a lot of fun.  And of course, the projects were awesome.  I, ah, didn't take a picture of the one before I gave it to my Mom, duh. Guess I'll have to remember to take the camera to Mom's and get that pic.  She really liked it, so it must have been pretty good! lol  Just to prove I was there, I did remember to take a pic of the instructor:

He he.  Isn't she cute???
Great time had by all, and my pocketbook came home noticeably lighter. Ok, I guess that's all I have for tonight.  With the weather getting nice, I've been spending more time outside, digging weeds out of the flower bed, mowing lawn, picking up branches, you know, all that great stuff you have to do when you own a home. Although it is my choice to have a huge flower bed, and strawberry bed, so that aspect of it is ... self-inflicted.  Daylilies are my favorite perennial.  I plant them everywhere. Love 'em.  Did I say that this was it for tonight? Oh, I did. Ok, then, have a good one, and go be creative!

Goin' Down Maya Road...

...I love their stuff....sigh...... the chipboard is fantastic. They came out with these chip words on a little keychain for CHA, there's five on a keychain. The one I was interested in was the one that had real, simply, create, art and imagine.  I wanted to come up with something to use the REAL and SIMPLY. Then just added the mini chip letters to make a phrase.
Here's what I came up with:

AND:

Oops, that one's kinda shadow-y.  Basically, the inside base pieces are 3".  Then I just mounted on black matboard. All stamps used are Wendy's.  All done within an hour and a half. Gotta love that!
And I hate to rub this in, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to take yet another class with Wendy tomorrow! Deb and Susan will be there as well, should be a riot!  Take care, have a creative weekend! (I know I will be, but I don't want to rub it in, rofl)

Tag Tuesday!

..yes, once again, it's time for Tag Tuesday! I hope you think it turned out better than the Easter egg incident from the Sunday Stampers Challenge. lol
The theme this week is actually a sketch. Here's the sketch and Louise's tag:

And here's my version:

I thought I would totally go outside my comfort zone (although, I'm really not sure what my comfort zone is), why break precedent for the week? and go with something a little contemporary, industrial and metal-ish. Not sure it would fit in the steampunk category, but it's a nice thought.  The semi circle is a stamp I got with a lot of stamps a while ago, some modern architecture terminology stamp.  The number stamp along the left side is Wendy's, dusted with perfect pearls.  The square is a piece of UTEE that I had poured over a stamp and dusted with perfect pearls.  The city scape stamp is Tim's - from the Rock Star set.  Didn't think I would ever use that city scape stamp, but there you go. I bought the set for the flaming border and the heart stamp.  The small numbered background is Wendy's stamp.  Little piece of German scrap on the bottom.  Thanks for stopping by, go be creative!

Sunday Stampers

...challenge this week is LACE.  Hmmm.
You know when you have an idea that doesn't quite turn out like you had envisioned in your head? (Wait, I think that phrase is redundant. yes, it is.)
This project was one of those "visions".
I saw these great Easter eggs on someone's blog, now I can't remember who, so if this looks like something you did, you can let me know and I'll certainly give you credit. However, after looking at how mine turned out, you might not want to come forward.  So, I really wanted to try something similar.  It does have the required lace, but the rest, well, I'm just not sure. lol

See what I mean? I was going to do three eggs, one each a little different, and after struggling for an hour or so on this one, well, the other ones are just sitting there.
Started with a paper mache egg, decoupaged old text paper over it, distressed it with Vintage Photo ink, wrapped lace around the middle, and started to make what I thought was going to turn out to be a flower with a piece of lace, but ended up, well, like a beanie for my egg, rofl.  So, I thought perhaps gluing white flowers over the top might help...the butterfly is white embossing powder on vellum.  Butterfly stamp is Tim's from Spring Sprung.  Then made a base for it to sit in with white embossed vellum.  I did attempt to stamp a Wendy sentiment on the egg, you can see it better in the first pic, but, have you ever stamped on an egg? Words are a bad idea. lol
You can see the other entries on Hel's blog, HERE.
There you have it, go be creative! and while you're at it, throw some my way!

Easter Bunny Brings the Grunge

..why make an Easter gift in advance? Why not just make it Easter morning 3 hours before you're supposed to give it? I did. lol
I was trying to think of something to give my two nephew, aged 12 and 8, besides a bag full of sweets (that wouldn't make it to them anyways, lol), and then I remembered seeing some grungeboard bracelets on Linda's blog, so I totally stole borrowed that idea.

One inch strips of grungeboard, ran thru Cuttlebug embossing folder, painted with Lumiere metal paints, sanded and inked with Vintage Photo distress ink.  Added a 1/2 inch piece of grungeboard that was inked, stamped and cut into strips, braided and attached with long fasteners.  Hitch fastener was used for a closure. Easy peasy.  I didn't use a sealer on them.  I figured that a) they weren't meant to last 20+ years and b) did I mention my nephews are 8 and 12?  I just warned them not to get them too wet, and if they do fall apart, I'll make new ones if they want and oh, by the way, could you save the hitch fastener? rofl. Yea, we'll see how that goes.  Any who, they seemed to like them, so I saved the day once again.
On a funny note, I mentioned at the dinner table to my nephews that I had made them something, and what do I hear from the adults gathered around the table?
"Shocking"
"What a surprise"
"Stunning"
They know me too well, lol.
Hope you had a great Easter holiday, always great to get together with friends and family, and eat lots! I'm starting my diet tomorrow, (well, after all the leftovers are gone).
Have a good one!

Tag Tuesday

yep, it's that time again! You can find Tag Tuesday Challenge HERE.

The theme this week? COLLAGE and STICKERS

Here's my version:

Man, I really have to do something about the backgrounds for these photos.  Obviously, you can see the collage part, right?
Stickers - I used the stickers left on the Forever Stamp sheet from the post office, you know, the good ole Liberty Bell.  The postage stamp thingy under Lady Liberty is also a sticker, from Rebecca Sower.
The Liberty Bell's were a little too bold, so I stamped over everything with the French Script stamp...still too much, so, I went with some torn pieces of vellum which are inked with Vintage Photo, and stamped with some postage stamp stamps in Coffee Archival, adhered with brads.  The rest are just images from the world wide web.  Everything is inked within an inch of it's life with Vintage Photo.
It's ok I guess, not sure about the vellum over the stickers. Any who, thanks for stopping by, and yes, stay tuned tomorrow, I'm just sayin'.
